About the project

Xavier Creative House is preparing for an upcoming scope of work from a small biopharmaceutical client looking to raise disease awareness among patients and providers about a rare ocular condition (X-linked retinoschisis [XLRS]) and educate on gene therapy. We're looking for a Medical Director to bring scientific and clinical oversight to our projects, potentially inclusive of a website, downloadable materials, social posts, and future brand logo development.

What you'll do

• Provide medical and scientific oversight for or a variety of print and digital project types, which may include disease state overviews, mechanism of disease summaries, and supporting HCP and patient materials
• Help the strategy and creative teams understand the disease states, mechanisms of disease and treatment landscape for gene therapy in ocular conditions, such as XLRS
• Work with the strategy, creative team, and medical writer to shape messaging and make sure content is consistent and accurate
• Join working sessions and, if needed, the client meetings

What we're looking for

• An MD or PhD in a relevant life science field; clinical experience is a plus for MD candidates
• Experience with gene therapy is required. Ocular gene therapy experience is strongly preferred with no current conflicts of interest
• Experience translating complex science for agency, commercial or medical communications teams
• Comfort working quickly and flexibly as project timelines shift

Nice to have

• Ability to propose out-of-the-box approaches to translate complex science into approachable content
• Familiarity with rare disease audiences and advocacy communities
• Familiarity with Teams and Slack as working platforms

Pay: $140.00 - $150.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 – 8.0 per week
