### About MatrixCare

### About the Role
MatrixCare is looking for a Vice President of Architecture, serving as our Chief Architect, to own the technical direction of our product portfolio and lead the architecture practice behind it. This role sets the target architecture across every MatrixCare product, establishes the standards and patterns engineering builds against, and leads a small team of principal and domain architects. You will partner with the CTO, engineering and platform leadership, product management, and our customers to turn a portfolio of applications into a coherent, cloud native, AI native platform that scales with the business.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a governance seat. You will spend as much time in design reviews and architecture decisions with engineers as you will coaching architects, sitting with customers on technical reviews, and shaping a modernization roadmap the organization can actually execute. We are looking for a leader who is measured on what shipped, not on what was diagrammed.
### What You'll Do
- Lead and develop a team of principal and domain architects, setting a clear bar for craft, technical judgment, and cross-functional partnership.
- Define and own the target architecture for the MatrixCare platform across the application, data, integration, AI, and security layers, and keep it specific enough that teams can build against it.
- Translate business strategy into an architecture roadmap with clear sequencing, dependencies, and an honest view of what each option costs to build and to run.
- Own the architecture decision record practice, making decisions at gates with named evidence rather than letting them drift to whoever writes code first.
- Establish the small set of standards, patterns, and guardrails that genuinely matter, and resist the temptation to write the rest.
- Lead the technical strategy for converging products onto a common, multi-tenant AWS platform without disrupting a live customer base.
- Design the shared services layer, including identity, tenancy, configuration, notifications, audit, and observability, so product teams stop rebuilding the same primitives.
- Build cloud economics into design, with a clear view of what each architecture decision costs in cost of goods sold and what it costs to change later.
- Set the resilience, availability, and disaster recovery targets for a portfolio serving providers who deliver care around the clock, and make sure the architecture actually meets them.
- Partner with the VP of Data/AI and support the architecture of AI as a platform capability rather than a set of product features, covering the model layer, retrieval, tool use, the agent runtime, and the evaluation harness.
- Design agentic workflows that initiate and complete real work in a system of record, with an explicit human in the loop model wherever clinical, financial, or regulatory risk warrants it.
- Partner with Information Security, Compliance, and Clinical leadership on AI governance, covering data boundaries, PHI handling, provenance, auditability, and the evidence we can show a customer or a regulator.
- Own the architecture of our interoperability surface, including a standards aligned FHIR API model, event subscriptions, and the exchange patterns our customers and referral partners need.
- Partner with the data and platform organization on data contracts, semantics, lineage, quality, and patient identity across products.
- Keep MatrixCare current and credible on HL7, FHIR, USCDI, TEFCA, and the CMS and ONC rules that shape health data exchange and translate them into product requirements before they become compliance emergencies.
- Act as the senior technical voice with customers on architecture reviews, security questionnaires, executive briefings, and roadmap conversations, and support Sales and Customer Success on strategic pursuits and at-risk accounts.
- Publish reference architectures, integration guides, and deployment patterns that let customers and partners build with us rather than around us.
- Build HIPAA, SOC 2, and HITRUST expectations into architecture patterns so compliance is an outcome of the design rather than a manual process bolted on afterward.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers, define the technical career path, and make architecture a destination rather than an exit from engineering.
- Champion AI assisted delivery across engineering, embedding an agentic development lifecycle into day-to-day workflows and instrumenting whether it is actually helping.
### What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years designing and delivering enterprise or commercial software, including 5+ years as a principal architect, chief architect, or head of architecture for a multi-product portfolio.
- Demonstrated ownership of a target state architecture that was actually built across more than one product or business line. We will ask what shipped, what did not, and why.
- Deep and current hands-on AWS expertise, including multi-account organization design, identity and networking, containerized and serverless compute, managed data services, and cost architecture.
- Experience leading the modernization of a product portfolio toward multi-tenant SaaS, including the practical realities of doing it underneath a live customer base.
- Healthcare software experience with direct accountability for protected health information, including HIPAA and either SOC 2 or HITRUST control environments.
- Working command of healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 v2, FHIR R4 or later, and USCDI, and of the federal rules that govern health data exchange.
- Experience designing and shipping AI or machine learning capability into a production product, including the data, evaluation, and governance work around the model rather than the model alone.
- Track record of building and developing high-performing technical teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Credibility with customers and executives, with concrete examples where a technical position you took changed a commercial or organizational outcome.
- Excellent communication skills, able to compress a complex trade off into a page a board member will understand without losing what an engineer needs.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience is welcome.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-acute or senior care experience is a strong plus, including familiarity with MDS, OASIS, HOPE, PDPM, PDGM, and post-acute referral, intake, and revenue cycle workflows.
- Hands on experience with Amazon Bedrock, agent runtimes, retrieval architectures, and model evaluation in a regulated setting.
- Experience leading globally distributed engineering organizations, including teams in India.
### What Success Looks Like
- A published, adopted target architecture that engineering teams actually build against, evidenced by active design work referencing it.
- Progress against the modernization roadmap, measured in fewer distinct runtimes, data stores, and deployment models across the portfolio.
- Platform cost of goods sold and unit economics trending in the right direction as products converge.
- Adoption, reliability, and customer uptake of the interoperability and API surface.
- AI capability moving from demonstration to production, with the governance evidence to support it.
- Reduction in rework and rediscovery caused by late or unmade architectural decisions.
- Customer and field confidence in MatrixCare's technical direction, seen in technical wins, reference architecture adoption, and security review outcomes.
- Growth, engagement, and output quality of the architects on your team, and the technical bar across engineering.
- Strength of partnership and velocity of execution with Engineering, Product, Data, and Information Security.
