Job Description
Overview
We are seeking an autonomous, business-minded Media Director to take comprehensive ownership of our annual $20M media budget. As a $200-$250M omnichannel brand scaling rapidly, we are moving beyond pure-play performance to build a sophisticated, full-funnel media engine.
In this role, you will operate as a high-leverage individual contributor. Instead of managing a large internal team, you will wield full strategic control over media allocation and agency partners. You will be responsible for balancing traditional DTC conversion media, deploying our new brand awareness initiatives, and maximizing our presence across our core Retail Media Networks: Amazon and Target. Additionally, you will support us in hiring the right media agency/partner.
Duties
1. Full Media Budget Ownership & Capital Allocation
- Serve as the sole financial steward for the $XM media budget, fluidly shifting capital between performance, brand, and retail channels to maximize overall enterprise growth.
- Lead comprehensive media planning and scenario-modeling to present direct spending recommendations to executive leadership.
2. Retail Media Network (RMN) Mastery (Amazon & Target)
- Drive omni-channel velocity by building and scaling ad strategies on Amazon Advertising (Sponsored Ads, DSP) and Target Roundel.
- Align digital media plans with retail trade calendars to ensure digital media spend directly boosts physical shelf velocity and online market share.
3. Full-Funnel Brand Awareness Strategy
- Own the strategy, deployment, and optimization of upper-funnel brand equity campaigns across Connected TV (CTV), Digital Audio, Linear, and Programmatic video.
- Establish and track upper-funnel success metrics via brand lift studies, tracking share of voice (SOV), and baseline organic search growth.
4. DTC Conversion & Performance Media
- Maintain the efficiency of core performance channels (Meta, Google, TikTok) focusing on Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), Lifetime Value (LTV), and Blended Marketing Efficiency Ratio (MER). Recognizing this is the core of media planning and strategy today, this will be a strong foundation shift.
- Partner with internal creative teams to guide rapid asset testing based on performance data trends.
5. High-Impact Agency Governance
- Directly manage external media planning, buying, and performance agencies, acting as their primary point of contact and holding them to strict execution standards.
- Audit agency work continuously to eliminate media waste and ensure data-driven campaign optimizations.
6. Advanced Attribution & Holistic Measurement
- Partner with Data Analytics to interpret Media Mix Modeling (MMM) and Multi-Touch Attribution (MTA) readouts.
- Quantify the "halo effect" of brand and retail media spending on our direct-to-consumer website traffic and sales.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5–8 years of experience overseeing omnichannel media strategy, either brand-side or at a leading growth agency.
- Budget Scale: Direct experience managing or heavily influencing media budgets of $20M+ annually.
- RMN Specialization: Proven, deep expertise navigating Amazon Advertising and Target Roundel ecosystems.
- Individual Contributor DNA: Thrives as a self-directed operator who can command a $50M budget and steer agencies without needing a large internal team to delegate to.
- Full-Funnel Native: Demonstrated success deploying and measuring upper-funnel, non-linear brand awareness campaigns.
- Analytical Rigor: Highly proficient in interpreting MMM data, Google Analytics 4, and multi-retailer dashboard metrics.
