Part time Executive Director with potential for Full Time

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic part time Executive Director to lead our

organization towards strategic growth and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will

possess strong management skills, a visionary mindset, and the ability to drive initiatives that

align with our mission.

Organization Description

National Alliance On Mental Illness ( NAMI) of San Luis Obispo County, CA is a 501 c3

nonprofit, grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with severe and

persistent mental health issues and their loved ones through effective and innovative support,

education, and advocacy. We are family members, loved ones, and those with lived experiences

of many ages, cultures, and stages. Though independent, NAMI SLO County is an affiliate of

NAMI National and NAMI California.

Job Responsibilities

Skills and Dispositions Desired

 Nonprofit leadership experience

 Familiarity with mental illness as a professional, caregiver, or individual living with a

mental illness

 Follow strategic direction from the Board and set organizational goals in alignment with

mission and vision

 Cultivate relationships, communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders,

including, clients, board members, and community leaders

 Ability to collaborate with Board of Directors, staff and community partners

 Experience working with a Board of Directors and following directions of the Board

 Experience with strategic planning

 Drive business development efforts to expand organizational impact and revenue streams

 Fiscal management skills, including budget preparation, decision-making, and reporting

 Manage budgets, resources, and organizational performance metrics to achieve financial

sustainability

 Experience in developing new revenue streams, fundraising, events, and donor relations

 Strong organizational skills and problem-solving skills

 Grant writing and program management experience

 Represent the organization at public events, conferences to enhance visibility and

reputation

 Robust work ethic with a sense of passion and urgency regarding bettering systems and

resources for those affected by mental illness, a willingness to learn in areas in which

prior knowledge may not exist

 Strong sense of integrity in leadership - conviction to lead with compassion, honesty, and

effectiveness.

 Proficiency in working with Microsoft and Google platforms and tools, websites,

Mailchimp and social media.

 Ensure adherence to legal standards and uphold organizational integrity.

 Proven experience in management with a strong background in strategic planning and

operations management. - both in the legislative nature and personal

 Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to build consensus among diverse

stakeholders.

 Strong business development acumen with a track record of expanding organizational

reach.

 Proficiency in project management and process improvement methodologies.

 Exceptional communication skills with the ability to inspire teams and engage external

partners.

 Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.

 Ability to think critically, adapt to changing environments, and lead organizational

change effectively.

Qualifications

The Executive Director is a comprehensive leader for the organization and within the

community, responsible for overseeing the programs, administration, and strategic planning for

the good of the organization and all whom it serves. other key attributes of a qualified candidate

include the following:

 Fundraising

 Marketing, Community Outreach, &Public Relations

 Fiscal Management

 Mental Health Advocacy Work - both in the legislative nature and personal. Working

closely with families and those affected by mental illness as they navigate resources.

 Volunteer recruitment and support

General Responsibilities

 Responsible for leading NAMI SLO County in a manner consistent with the mission and

vision defined by the Board of Directors

 Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board, providing all necessary

information to the Board to function effectively and efficiently, and to make informed

decisions

 Incorporate principals of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in all outreach and

engagement work

 Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenue streams necessary to support

the mission of NAMI SLO County

 Responsible for collaborating with treasurer and bookkeeper to oversee fiscal

management of NAMI SLO County

 Responsible for grant writing, grant management and communications

 Responsible for implementing programs that support the organization's mission in

conjunction with the vision and goals of the Board of Directors (keeping in mind the

resource and advocacy needs of those in the community affected by mental illness)

 Responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan and assessing the plan's

performance (may refer to the current strategic plan with the Board to update as

necessary

 Responsible for enhancing NAMI SLO County's reputation and rapport with the

community including mental health providers through the organization's coordinated,

substantial involvement in the community

 Responsible for building collaborative relationships with professionals, community

organizations, and other nonprofits
