Organization Overview

The United Artists of Animation and Interactive Media (U-AAIM) is a global non-profit built by industry veterans and passionate advocates for a brighter future in entertainment! We believe sustainable creative careers should be the foundation of our global industry, not the exception.

Our mission is to forge an equitable, transnational ecosystem where artists and staff can achieve lifelong financial stability—from their first break, through the peaks and valleys of their career, and into a secure retirement. We drive systemic change across borders by uniting the global workforce with two core tools: actionable industry intelligence to empower collective advocacy, and practical, career-spanning education for professional resilience and growth.

We are more than a resource; we are a mobilizing force—using transparency as a weapon against exploitation, education as a pathway to economic power, and collective action as the mechanism to reshape an entire industry. We exist to empower creators to own their careers, their value, and their future.

Position Summary

We are seeking a mission-aligned financial strategist to build the fiscal backbone of our movement. As the volunteer Chief Financial Officer, you will be the architect of our financial integrity, sustainability, and strategic resource allocation. This role transcends traditional accounting; it is about stewarding our community’s trust and translating our advocacy mission into a robust, transparent, and forward-looking financial model. You will establish our financial systems from the ground up, oversee compliance, model long-term sustainability, and ensure every dollar donated or earned is maximized in service of creating economic justice for the global creative workforce. You are the guardian of our credibility and the strategist for our future growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Architecture & Systems Leadership (40%)

Design, implement, and maintain all core financial systems, policies, and internal controls for a growing, complex non-profit (including advocacy, education, and marketplace operations).

Select and manage accounting software, chart of accounts, and financial reporting frameworks to ensure clarity, accuracy, and grant/donor compliance.

Establish the financial infrastructure for our emerging economic platforms (storefront, jobs board), including royalty tracking, payment flows, and revenue recognition.

Strategic Planning, Analysis & Sustainability (30%)

Develop and manage the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Founder and initiative leads, aligning resources with strategic priorities.

Lead long-term financial modeling and scenario planning to guide organizational strategy, sustainability, and scaling decisions.

Analyze financial and operational data to provide strategic insights, identify risks and opportunities, and measure the cost-effectiveness of programs.

Compliance, Reporting & Transparency (20%)

Ensure strict compliance with all non-profit regulatory, tax, and reporting requirements.

Prepare and present clear, accurate financial statements, dashboard reports, and forecasts for leadership and grant-making institutions.

Uphold and model the highest standards of financial transparency and ethical stewardship for our global community and supporters.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Leadership (10%)

Partner with the Director of Social Enterprise on marketplace financial models and with initiative leads on program budgeting.

Collaborate with volunteer teams on grant budgets, funding proposals, and donor reports.

Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing a financial lens on all strategic decisions.

Who You Are (Qualifications & Mindset)

Essential

7+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally as a CFO, Director of Finance, or senior financial controller. Non-profit finance experience is highly preferred.

A strategic systems-builder. You excel at creating order, clarity, and scalable processes from scratch and are proficient with modern cloud accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online).

Deeply knowledgeable in non-profit GAAP, 501(c)(3) regulations, and compliance. You understand restricted funding, grant management, and the unique financial narratives of mission-driven organizations.

An analytical storyteller. You can translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights and compelling narratives for both a board and a community of artists.

You possess unimpeachable integrity and a deep, personal commitment to economic justice and equitable systems.

You are a proactive, low-ego leader who thrives in a collaborative, bootstrapped environment.

Highly Valued

CPA, CMA, or similar professional certification.

Experience with financial modeling for social enterprises or revenue-generating programs within a non-profit.

Familiarity with international financial operations or multi-currency transactions.

A passion for or background in the creative industries.
