Job Description
Consumer Law Advocate, PLLC is launching a new practice group and is looking for the attorney who will build it. The firm currently has no one handling individual tenant cases. You will be the first and only attorney in this department, and you will be responsible for building it from the ground up.
The practice starts with plaintiff-side Florida tenant security deposit disputes. Tenants also call about mold, personal injury, and other issues, and the department may grow into those areas. You will handle every case from the first client call through demand, filing, hearings, mediation, and trial. The work combines remote practice with in-person court appearances when the court requires them, which many small claims courts do.
This is an independent role. There is no paralegal support at this time, so you must be comfortable managing up to 100 active files on your own. As case volume grows and revenue supports it, the firm plans to add a paralegal to the department. You will meet briefly and regularly with the firm owner to report on case progress, and you will otherwise run the practice yourself. You will gain substantial hands on litigation experience quickly, and you will help many people who are in a tough spot during challenging economic times.
What you’ll do
- Build the department. Set up intake, case screening, file management, deadline tracking, and templates for a high-volume practice.
- Manage your caseload. Evaluate cases, handle client communication, and move each file from start to finish.
- Research. Conduct statutory and procedural legal research using Westlaw or comparable tools.
- Draft. Prepare demand letters, pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
- Litigate. Prepare cases for trial, take and defend depositions, and appear at hearings, mediations, and trials.
- Negotiate. Work with opposing counsel and landlords, develop litigation strategy, and advise clients throughout each matter.
- Administer. Keep accurate case files and handle related administrative work.
What you bring
- Required: Active membership in good standing with The Florida Bar.
- Required: Ability to independently manage a large, fast-moving caseload.
- Required: Reliable transportation to attend in-person hearings in Florida courts.
- No minimum experience required. We want someone organized and self-motivated who wants to own and grow a practice.
Why join us
- Build and lead a new practice area instead of inheriting someone else’s.

- Salary plus bonuses tied to results.
- A fast track to courtroom and case-management experience.
- Meaningful work helping tenants who need it.
