Head of Retail - Remote

New York, NY, US$120,000-$140,000Posted today

Job Description

Crop Shop Boutique (CSB) is a fast-growing Australian e-commerce brand redefining athleisure since its launch in 2019 by Rachel Dillon. With a mission to empower women worldwide, CSB blends style, function, and confidence in every piece we create. Our team thrives on relentlessly raising the bar, being perfectly practical, and being unapologetically fearless.

About the Role

The Head of Retail (US) will build and lead CSB’s physical retail presence and strategy.

This is a senior, hands-on role. Ahead of the first opening, the role owns the US retail strategy, store pipeline, opening program, store operating model and team. As the portfolio grows, it takes full accountability for store trading, four-wall profitability and the in-store customer experience. The role will also explore wholesale opportunities and, once accounts are set up, coordinate and manage the wholesale channel.

The role partners closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Executive Committee and leaders across Merchandise, Brand, Marketing, Partnerships, Ecommerce, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance and People & Culture, so that every CSB store reflects the brand and performs commercially from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the retail strategy: choose priority cities, store formats and pop-ups, and build a phased store roadmap.
  • Find and secure sites: lead market and site analysis, build business cases with Finance, and negotiate leases with brokers and landlords.
  • Open stores: own the opening program from signed lease to opening day, working with designers, architects, shopfitters and our Brand team. Turn each opening into a repeatable playbook.
  • Run the P&L: own store sales, margin, wages and occupancy. Lead weekly trade reviews on conversion, ATV, UPT and sales per square foot, and report to the COO and Executive Committee.
  • Build the operating model: design store SOPs, select POS, workforce and clienteling systems, and keep stores compliant with federal, state and local requirements.
  • Create a standout in-store experience: set service and styling standards, partner on visual merchandising, and make each store a hub for the local CSB community through events, fitness collaborations and creator activations.
  • Connect online and offline: partner with Merchandise on ranges and allocation, and launch omnichannel services like click and collect and online returns in store.
  • Build the team: design the US retail structure, then hire, train and lead Store Managers and store teams.
  • Grow wholesale: assess opportunities with premium boutiques, fitness and lifestyle retailers and department stores, then set up and manage approved accounts.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Retail Management, Commerce or a related discipline (preferred), or equivalent senior experience.
  • 10+ years in retail, including at least 5 years leading multi-site or regional retail in the US
  • A proven track record opening new stores or launching a brand into US physical retail, ideally a digitally native or ecommerce-led brand
  • Strong financial acumen: store P&Ls, budgeting, forecasting and business cases
  • Working knowledge of US retail real estate, lease negotiation and store fit-out
  • Understanding of US retail compliance, including multi-state employment, wage and hour, health and safety and accessibility
  • Experience selecting and using retail POS, inventory, workforce management and clienteling systems
  • A builder's mindset: comfortable rolling up your sleeves while setting up systems, processes and teams from scratch
  • A people leader who attracts, develops and keeps high-performing store teams
  • Experience building a local community around a store
  • Clear communication and strong stakeholder skills, including working with an executive team in another country and time zone
  • Willingness to travel across the US and to Australia

Highly desirable

experience in premium activewear, athleisure, fashion or lifestyle retail. A degree in Business, Retail Management or Commerce is preferred, or equivalent senior experience.

Why Join CSB?

  • Build something from scratch: shape the strategy, the stores and the team, not inherit them
  • Join the senior leadership team of a fast-growing global brand
  • Work with a team that values bold moves, data-led decisions and progress over perfection
  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Remote working arrangement
  • Short Term Incentive Program (15%)
  • Parental leave package for both parents
  • Competitive staff discounts
  • Be a part of our mission to empower women worldwide
  • Exciting team events & initiatives
