POSITION OVERVIEW

The Vice President (VP) of Data Center QA/QC and Commissioning is a critical executive leadership role responsible for the global quality engineering strategy, programmatic standardized execution, and operational readiness of hyper-scale and enterprise data center construction.

This position oversees the entire lifecycle of quality assurance, quality control, and testing—from design review and factory witness testing (FWT) through Level 1 to Level 5 commissioning (Cx).

The VP will establish strict technical standards, manage global third-party commissioning agents, build a high-performing internal team, and ensure that mission-critical infrastructure is delivered with zero defects, fully optimized, and ready for seamless operational handover to the data center operations teams.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE

  • Global Program Strategy: Define, build, and scale a comprehensive global QA/QC and Commissioning framework specifically engineered for mission-critical data center environments.
  • Standardized Workflows: Establish and maintain global Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Management Systems (QMS), and Master Commissioning Specifications across multi-regional portfolios.
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify systemic engineering, manufacturing, and installation risks to protect the critical path and ensure 100% operational uptime at handover.
  • Executive Reporting: Deliver regular performance metrics, quality dashboards, and root-cause analysis reports directly to C-suite executives and board-level stakeholders.

COMMISSIONING MANAGEMENT – LEVELS 1–5

  • Comprehensive Testing Lifecycle: Champion and govern full Level 1 (Factory Acceptance) through Level 5 (Integrated Systems Testing / IST) commissioning protocols.
  • Vendor and CxA Management: Source, negotiate with, and hold accountable global third-party Commissioning Agents (CxA) and testing agencies to guarantee strict compliance with contract requirements.
  • System Integration Execution: Oversee complex integrated testing of critical systems, including medium/low voltage power distribution, generators, UPS systems, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, EPMS, BMS, and fire/life safety systems.

QA/QC OPERATIONS & COMPLIANCE

  • Design & Pre-Construction Integration: Embed QA/QC milestones into early design phases, ensuring peer reviews capture constructability, serviceability, and commissioning requirements.
  • Factory Witness Testing (FWT): Govern the FWT program for long-lead critical equipment, including electrical switchgear, modular skids, and transformers, to capture defects prior to site arrival.
  • Field Quality Enforcement: Implement comprehensive inspection matrices, non-conformance reporting (NCR) loops, and strict corrective action paths for general contractors and trade partners.

TEAM BUILDING & COLLABORATIVE OPERATIONS

  • Talent Cultivation: Recruit, mentor, and lead a world-class internal team of regional QA/QC directors, commissioning managers, and quality engineers.
  • Operational Handover: Act as the primary technical bridge between global construction delivery teams and site operations teams, securing final sign-offs and smooth warranty transitions.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a highly relevant technical field. An advanced degree (Master’s or MBA) is strongly preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience leading large-scale construction, QA/QC, or commissioning programs, with at least 6+ years specifically dedicated to hyper-scale data center infrastructure or similar heavy mission-critical environments, such as semiconductor labs or nuclear facilities.
  • Proven Executive Track Record: Minimum of four years in a director-level or higher leadership position overseeing multi-regional or global technical teams.

TECHNICAL & PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), BCA Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), or ASHRAE Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) designation is highly desirable.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a significant advantage.
  • Expert-level mastery of data center power and cooling topographies, industry redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N), and tier standards.

SOFT SKILLS & LEADERSHIP TRAITS

  • Exceptional Communication: Ability to articulate highly technical risk profiles and solutions clearly to non-technical corporate executives and external enterprise clients.
  • Decisive Problem Solving: Calm and analytical under high-stakes project constraints, with a reputation for driving consensus among adversarial project stakeholders.
  • Willingness to Travel: Ability to travel globally up to 50% to visit key construction sites, manufacturing hubs, and regional offices.

CRITERIA APPLICABLE TO ALL DARTPOINTS POSITIONS

  • Employees must complete individual quarterly objectives as assigned.
  • Employees must demonstrate commitment to all corporate core values: Customers First, Integrity, Initiative, and Problem-Solving.
