The Opportunity

Cerebral Tax Advisors is looking for a seasoned Director of Tax to lead our department and partner with the owner in scaling our firm. We serve a dedicated client base of medical professionals and practice owners who rely on us for sophisticated tax strategy and clarity.

You will play a critical role in the financial wellness of medical providers who are dedicated to the health of others, ensuring their complex tax situations are managed with the same care they provide their patients.

We aren't looking for a "tax technician" who simply manages a workload; we are looking for a leader who wants to own the department’s success, its people, workflow, economics, and client outcomes. We aren't looking for a "perfect" textbook candidate, but rather a proven leader who brings a mix of deep technical mastery and the EQ (Emotional Intelligence) to build a high-performing, happy team.

This role is designed to give you full autonomy to run the tax function, allowing the owner to step back and focus on firm's vision while you ensure our clients receive the "White Glove" service they expect. We are committed to a "zero-friction" onboarding process, providing you with full access to our historical data, client nuances, and the authority to implement the tools and team structures you need to hit the ground running.

What You’ll Do ● Own the Department: people, workflow, quality, the department’s economics, and client outcomes, including final technical review and sign-off on tax returns and year-end planning engagements. You set the standard; you don’t have to be the bottleneck on every return.

● Architect Scalable Systems: You will assess our current processes, identify improvements, and implement a structure that makes work predictable and scalable. We want your expertise to shape how we operate.

● Mentor & Scale: You will lead and grow our tax team (currently a Supervisor, two Seniors, and three offshore preparers). You will be responsible for conducting quarterly reviews, owning utilization, realization, and profitability targets, managing actual vs. goal, and hiring additional talent, including a Tax Manager, to ensure we have the bench strength to grow.

● Client Advocacy: You will serve as a key face of the firm. You’ll take complex concepts—such as real estate tax strategies, S-Corp basis, and Cash Balance Plans—and translate them into actionable, easy-to-understand advice for our clients.

● Executive Partnership: You will maintain proactive, transparent communication with the owner regarding the department's needs. We believe in providing the resources you need to succeed and are looking for a partner who communicates clearly to ensure we stay aligned. ● Capacity Planning & Resource Allocation: workflow and work-assignment structure; onboarding/training systems; and performance management with accountability to deadlines.

Candidate Profile

● 12+ Years of Experience: You have a deep background in public accounting. You are technically elite, comfortable with complex tax scenarios, and possess the professional judgment required to provide final sign-off on comprehensive client filings.

● A "Builder" Mindset: You are passionate about systems, documentation, and making the lives of your team members easier through better workflow.

● Technically Agile: You deploy automation and AI to remove low-value work and have led multiple meaningful efficiency initiative. You are tech-forward and proficient with modern tax software. While our current stack includes UltraTax CS, Planner CS, TaxDome, Fellow.ai, Zoom, Loom, and Whale, we are always open to evaluating and adopting better tools that increase efficiency.

● Client-Centric: builds trust quickly and delivers candid feedback with warmth; earns followership.

● A Continuous Learner: You possess a strong desire to collaborate, share knowledge, and learn from both the owner and external resources to stay at the cutting edge of tax strategy.

● Excellent Virtual leadership and Management Skills: Proven experience leading remote and offshore teams; keeps people aligned and accountable without managing by presence.

● Competitive Compensation: Base salary of $180k–$220k, paired with a 10% annual target for performance-based and profit-sharing bonus system, paid twice annually.
