Job Description

About FiftyFlowers

At FiftyFlowers, we connect customers with the world’s finest farms to deliver fresh, premium flowers directly to their doorsteps. We are building an unshakeable global infrastructure, driven by automated data pipelines ("Bloom Brain") and an unwavering core value to Inspire Joy. As we scale, we are eliminating operational entropy by creating frictionless, high-performance digital experiences for both our D2C consumers and B2B professional floral buyers.

The Opportunity & Role Purpose

We are seeking a Supply Chain Director to lead and continuously improve our end-to-end Supply Chain function—from production planning, sourcing, procurement, and vendor management through logistics, carrier management, and operational support. You will own the strategies, partnerships, systems, and performance required to secure reliable flower supply, strengthen our farm and vendor network, optimize purchasing and shipping costs, improve on-time delivery, and ensure flowers move efficiently and reliably from farm to customer.

Success means FiftyFlowers has the right flowers, from the right farms, at the right time and cost—with quality, freshness, reliability, service levels, and profitability protected even as supply conditions change.

Core Accountabilities & Success Outcomes

  • Own purchasing execution and performance, ensuring flowers are secured on time and purchasing decisions align with customer demand, availability, quality, farm capacity, and business priorities.
  • Lead and develop the Buyers and Purchasing Support team, establishing clear ownership, purchasing standards, decision rights, KPIs, coaching rhythms, and accountability—building a team capable of resolving routine decisions and exceptions independently and consistently.
  • Drive flower and freight cost negotiations, working closely with the Group President to proactively manage costs and protect profitability. Use volume, supplier performance, market conditions, and long-term partnerships to secure competitive costs and terms while protecting quality, reliability, and service levels.
  • Build a disciplined production and supply planning process that translates historical demand, sales forecasts, promotions, holidays, seasonality, and current sales signals into farm capacity, sourcing, and purchasing requirements. Anticipate supply gaps and constraints early enough to secure alternatives and support business needs.
  • Support flower selection and product development by providing Product/Merchandising with farm capabilities, new flower opportunities, seasonality, availability, production feasibility, sourcing alternatives, expected costs, and supply risks. Product/Merchandising retains ownership of flower selection and assortment decisions.
  • Build and strengthen the farm and supplier network, developing strategic relationships with existing partners while identifying, evaluating, negotiating with, and onboarding new suppliers. Establish clear expectations and actively manage performance across availability, fill rates, quality, claims, responsiveness, reliability, pricing, and execution.
  • Own supplier allocation and purchasing strategy across farms, balancing availability, freshness, quality, landed cost, supplier reliability, customer commitments, and gross-margin requirements rather than buying on price alone.
  • Own logistics strategy and carrier commercial relationships, including contract and rate negotiations, renewals, service-level expectations, capacity planning, peak-season strategy, and evaluation of current and alternative logistics partners.
  • Drive logistics performance and accountability, improving on-time delivery, shipment integrity, claims performance, carrier responsiveness, and overall service reliability. Build strong carrier relationships while identifying recurring failures, driving root-cause resolution, and establishing contingency plans when service is disrupted.
  • Create actionable Supply Chain visibility through dashboards and operating KPIs covering demand and supply planning, flower availability, supplier performance, purchase-cost variance, quality and claims, freight cost, on-time delivery, carrier performance, and Buying team productivity. Use the data to identify risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement within Supply Chain, identifying operational needs and opportunities that can be supported through Bloom Brain. Define Supply Chain requirements, workflows, data needs, and priorities; partner with Technology on implementation, testing, and adoption; and ensure the tools developed improve planning, purchasing, supplier management, logistics visibility, and exception management.

What the Role Is NOT Accountable For

  • Technology Development: Technology owns the architecture and development of Bloom Brain and other systems. Supply Chain owns defining business needs and requirements, data quality, workflow definition, testing, adoption, and operational use of Supply Chain functionality.
  • Flower Merchandising, Ecommerce & Pricing Strategy: Product/Merchandising and Ecommerce own flower selection, merchandising strategy, the customer-facing shopping experience, and retail/wholesale pricing strategy. Supply Chain provides the sourcing feasibility, seasonality, farm capacity, availability, flower and landed costs, quality, and supplier intelligence needed to support those decisions.
  • Customer Experience & Financial Accounting: Customer Experience owns customer-facing service and resolution, while Finance owns accounting and financial reporting. Supply Chain owns investigating upstream supply-chain issues, driving root-cause correction, holding farms, suppliers, and carriers accountable, and implementing operational improvements to prevent recurring failures.

Key Qualifications & ExperienceRequired

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, procurement, sourcing, buying, logistics, operations, or a related function, including direct responsibility for suppliers and operational execution.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams, creating accountability, and building repeatable processes in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong demand/supply planning and analytical capability, with experience translating forecasts, supplier capacity, inventory or availability data, and operational constraints into purchasing decisions.
  • Proven supplier-management and negotiation experience, including performance management, service expectations, pricing, capacity commitments, and corrective action.
  • Working knowledge of freight, transportation, carrier performance, customs/import processes, and operational risk management.
  • Advanced Excel or equivalent analytical skills and comfort working with ERP/OMS, purchasing, inventory, planning, and reporting systems.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and influence skills; able to make clear decisions with incomplete information, escalate appropriately, and coordinate teams across locations and time zones.

Preferred / Ecosystem Extras

  • Professional fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to work directly with farms and supply partners throughout Latin America.
  • Experience with flowers, agriculture, food, fresh goods, or another perishable/time-sensitive supply chain where seasonality, freshness, substitutions, and quality are critical.
  • Experience in ecommerce, direct-to-consumer, B2B distribution, or an environment where demand is event/date driven and service failures directly affect the end customer.
  • Experience implementing or improving supply-chain technology, master data, supplier scorecards, dashboards, automation, or operational-control systems.

What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months

  • A clear operating model exists for Buying and Purchasing Support, with defined ownership, KPIs, decision rights, and routines that enable the team to make routine decisions independently and consistently.
  • Farm and supplier performance is measurable and actively managed through strong relationships, supplier scorecards, business reviews, and corrective-action plans.
  • Holiday and seasonal supply planning begins earlier and produces documented capacity, sourcing, substitution, and logistics contingency plans.
  • Flower availability and fill rates improve while preventable supply disruptions, claims, and last-minute customer interventions decline.
  • Flower and freight costs are proactively managed and optimized, with a strong focus on negotiation and cost-saving opportunities to protect profitability without compromising quality, reliability, or service levels.
  • Carrier performance improves, with clear accountability and visibility around on-time delivery, shipment integrity, claims, rates, capacity, and service reliability.
  • Leadership has reliable visibility into Supply Chain performance and emerging risks through a practical KPI/dashboard cadence.
  • Bloom Brain is effectively adopted and expanded within Supply Chain, improving visibility, reducing unnecessary manual work, and enabling better planning, purchasing, supplier management, logistics management, and exception handling.

Culture Fit & Desired Style

You will succeed here if you combine structure with urgency: you anticipate problems, validate the facts, make decisions, communicate early, and build systems that keep the same issue from happening twice. You develop people rather than becoming the bottleneck, and you are comfortable operating in a business where weather, farms, carriers, customers, and technology can all change the plan.

You model FiftyFlowers’ AGILE values: Act with Fearless Innovation; Grow by Doing the Hard Things; Inspire Joy; Lead with Love and Care; and Evolve by Being Curious.
