POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director, Business Development is Nucleus RadioPharma’s frontline driver of new CDMO revenue, personally sourcing, advancing, and closing complex contracts with small and emerging biotech sponsors and supporting select strategic accounts as Nucleus scales into active manufacturing operations. Operating with senior-level autonomy and judgment in a GMP-regulated, fast-growing commercial environment, this role builds direct relationships with senior sponsor decision-makers and partners closely with the VP, Commercial Operations and Business Development on deal strategy, pricing, and contract terms. Beyond individual deal execution, the Senior Director contributes market and competitive insight that sharpens Nucleus’s commercial strategy, with the goal of filling manufacturing capacity and advancing Nucleus’s mission of getting the right therapeutic to the right patient at the right time.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Pipeline Generation & Deal Closing
- Own and manage a portfolio of priority business development opportunities, with primary focus on small and emerging biotech sponsors, advancing opportunities from first contact through signed contract.
- Personally lead outreach to, and build relationships with, target sponsors in Nucleus’s priority profiles, with focus on RPTs and adjacent modalities, establishing access to senior and executive-level customer stakeholders.
- Build and maintain rigorous CRM and opportunity-funnel discipline, providing accurate, real-time visibility into deal stage, probability, and expected timing.
- Represent Nucleus at industry conferences, trade shows, and partner engagements to generate qualified leads and build market presence.
- Meet or exceed pipeline generation, bookings, and closed-revenue targets established
Deal Support
- Lead the commercial advancement of assigned opportunities by coordinating sponsor context, technical requirements, timing, and cross-functional inputs into proposals and RFP responses; partner on final proposal strategy and commercial positioning.
- Provide senior commercial judgment on pricing, deal structure, negotiation strategy, opportunity prioritization, and tradeoffs within the commercial framework and deal-selection discipline.
- Negotiate contract terms within delegated authority limits, escalating only decisions that fall outside approved parameters.
- Ensure a smooth handoff of closed programs to Program Management, Labs, and Manufacturing, maintaining customer confidence through the transition.
Customer Relationship Managemen

- Develop deep knowledge of target sponsors’ pipelines, development plans, decision processes, and CDMO needs to enable proactive, consultative engagement and account planning.
- Build trusted relationships with senior and executive client stakeholders that convert into durable, well-structured CDMO contracts and position Nucleus for follow-on opportunities.
- Identify relationships with the potential to evolve into strategic partnerships, key accounts, or broader portfolio relationships; partner with the VP and CBO on appropriate escalation and engagement.
Strategic Contribution
- Advise the VP, Commercial Operations and Business Development and Chief Business Officer on market trends, sponsor sentiment, competitive positioning, and emerging opportunities in the RPT and broader radiopharmaceutical CDMO landscape.
- Contribute commercial and market perspective to capacity planning, pricing strategy, and account-prioritization discussions.
- Exercise sound independent judgment on prioritization, sequencing, and tradeoffs in a scaling, early-stage manufacturing environment where processes and precedent are still being established.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Provide regular, accurate pipeline and deal-progression reporting to Business Development, internal stakeholders and Executive Team.
- Lead cross-functional pursuit activity across Marketing, Program Management, Labs, Manufacturing, Finance, and other functions to ensure opportunities are commercially compelling, operationally executable, and advanced with appropriate urgency.
- Influence priorities and resolve tradeoffs with peer functions including Labs and Manufacturing capacity, and Finance on pricing without formal authority over those teams.
- As pipeline volume grows, help recruit, onboard, mentor, and potentially lead additional business development or strategic-account resources.
- Perform other general duties as assigned or directed by supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalency
- 12+ years of progressive business development, commercial, strategic-account, or related experience, with a track record of personally sourcing, advancing, negotiating, and closing complex contracts in biopharma, biomanufacturing, CDMO/CRO services, or a closely adjacent sector.
- Disciplined use of CRM and pipeline-tracking tools, with the rigor to keep funnel data current and accurate; sufficient scientific and technical fluency to engage credibly with Labs and Manufacturing colleagues and represent Nucleus’s capabilities to sophisticated sponsors.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and deliver at a Senior Director level of scope, autonomy, strategic impact, and judgment, with minimal oversight in an ambiguous, early-stage environment.
- Demonstrated executive presence comfortable engaging, presenting to, and negotiating with C-suite and senior scientific/technical stakeholders on both the sponsor and internal sides.
- Sound independent commercial judgment, with a track record of making high-stakes decisions (pricing, prioritization, negotiation posture) with limited precedent or guidance.
- Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and executive communication skills, with demonstrated ability to establish credibility with senior customer stakeholders and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to customer meetings and industry events.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and interpersonal skills, utilizing resourceful thinking and strong empathy.
- Ability to foster an inclusive and cooperative work environment.
Preferred
- Direct experience in a CDMO, CRO, or comparable contract-services environment, with familiarity navigating outsourced development and manufacturing relationships.
- Experience developing business with small and emerging biotech sponsors and/or managing complex strategic accounts in a life-sciences services environment.
- Experience contributing to commercial strategy or go-to-market planning beyond individual deal execution.
- Technical or scientific undergraduate education.
- Master’s in Business Administration
Ideal
- Direct experience in radiopharmaceuticals, RPTs, or nuclear medicine.
- Prior experience building or scaling a business development function, mentoring commercial talent, or expanding the scope of strategic/key accounts.
- Prior experience operating in a GMP-regulated, IND/FDA-governed environment.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary range for this role is $180,000–$250,000 per year. Please note that compensation may vary outside of this range depending on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
Benefit packages for this role include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account options (depending on the plan chosen), and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
