Job Summary

We are seeking to hire a Director of Sales, Food and Drug. The candidate will report to the Vice President of Sales and will have direct selling, team management/development and P&L responsibility for the Singer sewing portfolio of products. This portfolio of responsibility will encompass ~$10M in annual revenue across multiple US channels of North America distribution including Mexico and Canada.

Focused on developing and sustaining a profitable value proposition and business requirements for the company will be critical. Particularly adept at forming cross-functional relationships within the company to improve P&L metrics on distribution expansion, winning the shelf, and impulse promotional offerings.

Demonstrates strong business acumen and skill set competencies in joint business planning, item development, supply chain management, trade deployment, negotiation, and consumer marketing. Has the ability to secure new item placement against the company’s key launch initiatives, while delivering planogram efficiency.

Can develop fact based selling stories that aligns with our customers retail positioning, while also driving profitable top-line revenue results for the company. Familiar with leading and developing internal business support processes that accelerate quote times, initiate direct import capabilities, and improve quality testing results. Ensures product offerings sell to forecast and consumption targets, while reducing backend inefficiencies in the areas of markdowns and excess and obsolete.

Responsible for developing the annual business plan and P&L that aligns with strategic accounts lead-time requirements, while ensuring seamless execution and support from the broader Company organization. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the deployment of trade funding focused on maximizing retail attainment with the shopper, while also driving the company’s ROI. Can easily prioritize customer mix opportunities based on profitability and the ability to drive market share. Charged with developing best in class practices related to Distribution, Merchandising, Pricing, Promotion, and Replenishment.

This position requires an energetic leader who is adaptable, can manage multiple priorities and has strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills. The selected individual will create and establish sales strategies and business plans to maximize revenues and profits. The successful candidate is accountable for developing and fostering a collaborative relationship with strategic accounts and delivering visionary strategy that drives mutual commercial wins. He or she will also develop customer sales presentations that will increase sales by addressing pricing, merchandising, distribution, promotions, and logistics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver annual net sales and EBITDA targets, insuring profitable growth for the company.
  • Develop an annual business plan rooted in profitability that drives baseline expansion, new item acceptance and expanded seasonal/promotional placement.
  • Align with customers business and category objectives thus earning partner of choice status.
  • Work collaboratively cross-functionally to develop business processes that supports the seamless execution against programs, while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to improving P&L metrics in the areas of COGS, trade deployment and sourcing.
  • Demonstrates strong horizontal and vertical penetration focused on providing superior service that creates customer value at strategic accounts.
  • Champions discussions/projects with the companys senior management and peers that create more effective strategies, resulting in increased profitable sales with the channels you lead.
  • Effective use of trade resources, driving profitable market share and strong retail programs.
  • Strong financial acumen and P&L management competencies rooted in analytics. Particularly adept in negotiations, business planning, and trade management.
  • Utilizes fact based and relationship selling to expand customer partnerships including VP/DMM.
  • Has strong critical thinking skills that deploy creative solutions to address business opportunities
  • Adept in selling to consumption and providing accurate forecasts
  • Is aware and proactively manages supply chains thus improving the company’s customer scorecards.

Travel Requirements

* Travel up to 10% pending on time of year and business requirements

Education and Experience (Candidate must have)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business (Graduate work a plus)
  • 10+ years’ experience in sales and sales management in consumer-packaged goods industry, preferably general merchandise or seasonal products
  • Solid consumer goods sales experience with UPC with high-end retailers such as Target, Walmart and Ace Hardware etc.
  • Solid National Sales experience in Food and Drug Retail industry
  • Exceptional manual file maintenance experience
  • Advanced Mircosoft Office Excel skills
  • Experience with cross functional exposure to other business operations. Prefer experience in category leadership with CPG industry (e.g. “Category Captain / Advisor”)
  • Proven leadership and ability to train / lead and develop a multi-functional team
  • Strong knowledge of Syndicated Data (Nielsen/IRI, Spectra, Panel Data, A&Us)
  • Strong oral, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Computer proficient (Microsoft Office, Nielsen/IRI)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
