Position Overview

ISG Research is seeking a leader to own its Human Capital Management (HCM) expertise area. The Director of Research, HCM will lead research and market-facing activities across employee experience, learning and development, payroll, talent management, total rewards and workforce management. This role brings an authoritative point of view to the market and helps enterprises use people, processes, information and technology more effectively.

The director will shape the HCM research agenda, contribute to ISG Research products and client engagements, and work closely with product, marketing, revenue and client success teams. Success is measured through client engagement, market expertise, revenue contribution and the quality and timeliness of research deliverables.

This position reports to the Executive Director, Business Research.

Research Team & Collaboration

The successful candidate will be part of the ISG Research software analyst team and collaborate across complementary technology practices.

Peer practice areas include

  • Enterprise AI and data - AI strategy and governance, AI-infused software, data and information
  • architectures, planning and analytics.
  • Office of Finance - integrated business planning and AI for business.
  • Analytics and Data - AI and data platforms, data management, governance, DataOps, streaming and
  • analytics.
  • IT and Technologies - cloud and infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity, AppDev, DevOps,
  • automation and IT operations.
  • Customer Experience - contact center modernization, customer journeys, field service and self-service.
  • Office of Revenue - CRM and RevOps, revenue intelligence and AI.

Responsibilities

  • Set and execute the research agenda for HCM markets, technology providers and buyer priorities.
  • Develop primary research, analyst perspectives, market perspectives, benchmark research, dynamic insights and value index content that delivers clear, evidence-based guidance.
  • Provide thought leadership on HCM strategy, employee experience, talent, learning, payroll, compensation and workforce management.
  • Guide enterprise buyers in understanding markets and selecting vendors and products that meet their
  • requirements.
  • Build and maintain trusted working relationships with software providers across product, marketing and sales organizations.
  • Partner with analyst peers and product, marketing, revenue, account and client success teams to maximize the value of ISG Research offerings.
  • Support client inquiries, briefings, speaking engagements and advisory activities; contribute to client retention and revenue growth.
  • Manage research and client-delivery workflows so commitments are high quality, on schedule and aligned to client needs.
  • Participate in analyst leadership and team meetings to advance innovation, operational improvement and client satisfaction.

Required Skillsets

  • Extensive experience as an industry analyst, HCM technology practitioner, consultant, or product marketing/product management leader at a recognized technology provider.
  • Deep, current knowledge of HCM processes, technology markets and enterprise buyer requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to form and communicate a well-developed, independent point of view.
  • Experience advising executives on HCM technology strategy, planning and vendor or product evaluation.
  • Strong written, presentation, communication and collaboration skills with industry leaders and clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently in a remote environment and consistently deliver high quality results.

Education

* Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, computer science or a related discipline; advanced education is welcome.
