Job Description
Job Title
: Chief Financial Officer
Salary Range
: $200,000 - $300,000 annually
Schedule
: Monday - Friday (Full-time/Remote Opportunities Available)
Led by Shawn and Shervin Lalezary, the Law Brothers represent California's injured and have recovered more than $500 Million for their clients over the years. With offices throughout the state, the Law Brothers employ a team of skilled personal injury professionals, and work with a large network of California's trusted legal support staff, medical experts, and accident reconstruction specialists to provide exceptional service to our clients.
*Ideal for finance leaders with law firm, legal services, or professional services experience — particularly contingency-fee or plaintiff's practice backgrounds.*
The Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key member of the firm's leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including case cost management, settlement/receivables tracking, trust accounting (IOLTA compliance), budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial strategy. This role requires deep fluency in law firm economics and trust accounting — particularly the unique cash-flow dynamics of contingency-fee-based personal injury practice — combined with traditional CFO expertise. This is not a traditional professional services CFO role; success requires fluency in contingency-fee cash flow, not just GAAP and budgeting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the firm's overall financial strategy in partnership with the Managing Partner(s)
- Oversee cash flow management, with particular attention to the irregular timing of contingency-fee revenue and case cost advances
- Manage trust accounting and ensure full compliance with IOLTA and state bar financial regulations
- Build and maintain financial models to forecast revenue based on case pipeline, settlement timing, and litigation costs
- Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and monthly/quarterly/annual close processes
- Track case-related cost advances (medical liens, expert witness fees, court costs) and ensure accurate recovery accounting
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, and any litigation funding partners
- Oversee accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general accounting functions
- Ensure compliance with tax obligations, audits, and financial regulations
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to partners to support strategic decisions (e.g., hiring, marketing spend, office expansion)
- Implement and maintain financial controls, systems, and software (e.g., legal practice management and accounting integrations)
- Manage and mentor accounting/finance staff
- Support partner compensation modeling and profitability analysis by practice area or attorney
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field required; MBA or CPA strongly preferred
- 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience; prior CFO, Controller, or senior finance experience at a personal injury or plaintiff's firm strongly preferred
- Experience with contingency-fee revenue models and law firm trust accounting strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management in a services-based business
- Strong proficiency with accounting and legal practice management software (e.g., QuickBooks, Filevine, Clio, or similar)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-financial partners
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with litigation funding and case cost financing arrangements
- Experience scaling finance operations during firm growth or expansion

- 9 additional paid holidays.
