About Creo Collective

Creo Collective is a full-service marketing agency. We partner with technology companies to help them stand out from their competitors, connect with prospects and customers in a meaningful way, and contribute to their bottom-line results. Our mission is to change how people think about a marketing agency. At Creo, we work to positively impact our clients’ businesses by helping them grow, and focus equally on making a real impact on the lives of the people we serve.

Client teams are curated based on the needs of the client. This allows Creo Collective team members to serve clients where they can provide the most value in their areas of expertise.

The opportunity

Creo Collective is expanding into the public sector and building a bench of experienced freelance specialists who can be activated as engagements are won.

We are looking for an experienced Art Director who can translate strategy, complex information, and client objectives into clear, compelling visual experiences. You’ll work across B2B and public-sector engagements, partnering with strategists, account teams, copywriters, and other creatives to develop concepts and lead the visual direction of campaigns and communications.

The ideal candidate is both a strong designer and a strategic creative thinker — someone who can take a complex idea, find the story within it, and turn it into work that is visually engaging, accessible, and effective.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop creative concepts and visual direction for marketing campaigns, communications, and client initiatives
  • Translate complex technical, business, and public-sector ideas into clear and compelling visual stories
  • Collaborate with client managers, strategists, copywriters, and other creative team members to develop integrated creative solutions
  • Lead the visual direction of projects from concept through final production
  • Design and oversee creative deliverables across digital and print, including campaigns, presentations, social media, websites, reports, trade show materials, advertising, and other marketing collateral
  • Ensure creative work aligns with client brand guidelines while finding opportunities to elevate and strengthen the visual identity
  • Present creative concepts and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders, clearly explaining the strategic thinking behind the work
  • Provide creative direction, feedback, and mentorship to designers or other creative contributors when needed
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality and attention to detail
  • Partner with production and relevant teams to ensure creative deliverables are completed on time and within scope
  • Bring a strong understanding of audience, messaging, accessibility, and user experience into visual decision-making

What we are looking for

  • 5+ years of experience in art direction, graphic design, or a related creative discipline
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating concept development, visual storytelling, and design across multiple channels
  • Experience developing creative for B2B brands, technology companies, professional services, or other complex industries
  • Strong understanding of branding, typography, layout, visual hierarchy, and design systems
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Ability to translate complex ideas and messaging into simple, compelling visual communications
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain creative decisions to clients and non-design stakeholders
  • Experience collaborating with strategists, copywriters, account teams, and other creatives
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Strategic thinker who can balance creativity with business and communication objectives

Plus if

* Public-sector, government, SLED, or civic communications experience, with an understanding of designing for public-facing audiences and accessibility.

Performance expectations

Though a contract position, to succeed in this role, we expect

  • Availability during working hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) - This means checking email to ensure timely responses to team and clients, watching GChat for internal messages, etc.
  • Note: We have team members across the US; we can be flexible on working hours pending your location.
  • 20-30 hours every week (billable) - This may include client-facing activities, such as client meetings or presentation of design elements to clients. The number of hours per week may vary pending client needs.
  • Consistently save any working files to the creative folder before the end of every working day to ensure the team has access to all projects, if needed.
  • Transparent and honest communication with your entire Creo team regarding availability and accessibility.

Why join Creo Collective?

  • Join a kind, talented, and collaborative team that values both results and relationships.
  • Work with forward-thinking public-sector and B2B clients across a variety of industries.
  • Have real ownership over your work and the opportunity to shape strategy and outcomes.
  • Enjoy a flexible, remote-first culture with opportunities for growth and development.
